New Nas album: Activism or Oportunism?

Welcome to Zia's blog on the now untitled Nas album (formerly titled "Nigger") due in stores on July 15th. Since announced late last year the title and rumored content of the album have drawn both plenty of praise and criticism from artists, politicians, news media, civil rights organizations, and everyday fans alike. While some praise Nas for his willingness to tackle such deep rooted and painful subject matter regarding race relations in America in an honest and straight forward manner, others including usual enemies Bill O'Reilly and Al Sharpton have alligned in criticizing and vilifying him for degrading African-Americans and/or using such harsh subject matter as a marketing tool.

With the concept of race and its relevance again becoming a much discussed issue in our country, Zia wants to hear your opinion on the issue. Does the manner in which Nas is presenting these concepts degrade African-Americans and cause more racial divide or does it encourage a healthy dialogue between different races? Is Nas bearing his soul and trying to bring about change in the way we see each other and ourselves racially or is he selling his soul and trying to make a buck?

We want to hear from you!

Please remember, while the subject matter does call for consversation that may make some uncomfortable, use common sense and good judgement when posting on this blog. keep it civilized and respectful.
